UAB and the city of Birmingham have been chosen to host the 2015 Conference USA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships, pending approval by the C-USA Board of Directors.

The 2015 tournament is scheduled to take place on March 11-14, with the men’s championship to be held at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex and the women’s championship taking place at UAB’s Bartow Arena.

“UAB is extremely excited to be bringing the Conference USA Basketball Tournaments back to Birmingham,” UAB Athletic Director Brian Mackin said. “We also look forward to partnering with the Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau, the City of Birmingham and the Sheraton and Westin Hotels.”
“I am extremely excited for Birmingham and UAB to be hosts for the C-USA 2015 basketball tournaments,” UAB women’s basketball head coach Randy Norton said.
UAB head men’s basketball coach Jerod Haase added, “I know this city will welcome the teams and do a great job.  We’re excited for our programs to be able to host the C-USA tournament.”

The Conference USA Men’s Basketball Championship is set to return to Birmingham for the first time since 1999, marking just the second time the Blazers will host the event. UAB hosted the inaugural 1996 C-USA Women’s Basketball Championship in Birmingham.
“We are very excited to be able to showcase our basketball teams in Birmingham, they will be tremendous hosts,” C-USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky said. “We also were excited to learn about the great opportunities our other communities represent, each did a great job with the proposals and we have wonderful options for 2016 and beyond.”
The Conference USA Board of Directors will meet in Dallas on Monday, June 9.
